48 Hours in Bangkok : A Champagne Evening with Tom Dixonby Jules.DoubleV

29.10.2025

I’m still feeling the energy from last night at Motif Living, Central Embassy. The champagne kept flowing, and every corner of the space was alive with creativity as Tom Dixon brought his unique vision to Bangkok.

Meeting Tom under those lights was a dream come true. He has been my design hero for years, and talking with him felt both personal and inspiring. He shared candid stories about stumbling into design by accident, his early days in music and pottery, and how those unexpected paths shaped his creative journey

The evening spotlight was on the launch of the Groove outdoor collection. Tom spoke openly about the challenge of creating beautiful pieces that withstand real-world conditions in Bangkok’s tropical climate while remaining both high quality and affordable tomdixon.net. It was clear that behind each chair, stool, and cushion lies over a decade of careful research and innovation

The “48 Hours in Bangkok” format feels fresh and dynamic. Tom explained that it emerged from pandemic travel restrictions when short visits became essential. Now he continues this fast-paced tour model to engage deeply with local design communities. Bangkok was the inaugural stop, and next up are Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, and Singapore art4d.com.

One highlight of the talk was his reflection on the BEAT light series. He described how original works made by Indian artisans gained global popularity and were widely copied. Tom decided to reimagine his own designs by copying the copycats, producing machine-finished aluminum versions that offer a new aesthetic and broader appeal art4d.com. This creative “work backwards” mindset was thrilling to hear in person.

The event was also a celebration of the 13-year partnership between Tom Dixon and Motif Group in Thailand. The room was filled with designers, creatives, and ambassadors of design. The lively discussions over cocktails felt like a meeting of minds, not just an upscale showcase

Tom’s humility stood out. Despite global acclaim, he remains deeply curious and eager to innovate. His excitement about using new lighting technology and sustainable materials reminded everyone that design’s future lies in progress, not nostalgia .
